What is a Capybara?

Here are some fun facts about Capybaras!

  • They are the world's largest rodent weighing in at over 100 pounds!
  • Capybaras eat 6-8 pounds of grass per day!
  • They are semi-aquatic, and can stay underwater for up to 5 minutes!
  • Capybaras live in groups of 10‑30 animals!

An Interactive Learning Experience

At Suncoast Humane Society, we are excited to present HappyCapys, our latest humane education program.

Our mission with HappyCapys is to engage people of all ages in learning about the importance of social and playful behavior in animals. The lovable and sociable capybara are iconic examples of both.

This learning program offers unique educational events through interactive experiences, all under the supervision of our dedicated team of humane educators and animal behaviorists.

It’s about learning facts and fostering a deep emotional connection with the animal kingdom. By preparing people to be aware, knowledgeable, and able to take action to create solutions to problems,

HappyCapys is more than just a program—it’s a movement towards a more compassionate world.

HappyCapys is dedicated to safety and animal welfare.

  • A natural, landscaped property with spacious enclosures for capybaras at Suncoast Humane Society.
  • On-Site Animal Trainer and Humane Educator, as well as experienced animal caretakers and handlers for encounters.​
  • Dedicated areas for interacting with capybaras equipped with seating and air conditioning.
  • Certified Yoga Instructors for HappyCapy Yoga, and a spacious yoga room with considerations for animal and human safety.
  • Capybaras receive regular veterinary care and enjoy enrichment actitivies.
  • Strict adherence to animal welfare guidelines to maintain USDA licensure.

About This Experience: A yummy, hearty snack is served by every participant to the capybaras, offering a unique way to connect with these animals while they eat their favorite treats. The girls will climb on your laps or by your side for snuggles and their impossible to resist kisses! Information about their care and training will be provided during the session.

HappyCapys Capybara Yoga

$ 99 Per Person
  • Upcoming Dates: Sat, July 26, 2025
  • 1:00-2:00pm
  • A relaxing yoga session conducted in the presence of capybaras, creating a calming and joyful atmosphere.
  • Led by certified yoga instructors and available in small groups to ensure an intimate experience.
  • 1 Hour per Session

$ 750 for up to 6 People
  • Exclusive access to the capybara enclosure for a more personalized and flexible experience.
  • Only space and capybaras will be provided.
  • Ideal for celebrations, team building, or family outings.
  • 1.5 Hours per Session
  • $65 per person additional for people 7-10
  • $50 per person additional for people 11-24
